At first, it must have been a strange site, a large green truck with a wicked grin painted on its front pulling up in front of the VA. But then the windows opened and the PVA banners came out. The Mountain States Chapter was there to make an impact – a very visible impact.
On Friday August 28th, we teamed up with the Full Battle Rattle Deli to provide 60 lunches to the staff of the SCI-D clinic. This was our way of saying thank you to all of the staff who take such great care of us – even through this crazy pandemic. On a nice sunny day, the staff were all given a ticket with a message of thanks on behalf of our Chapter, which they were then able to use for a free box lunch with a great deli sandwich. A few of us were able to say thanks in person. Even the center director, Dr. Coons, came by and the staff were so appreciative.
The deli, started by Army Veteran Mike Grooper, trains vets for culinary careers through an apprentice program and was happy to partner with PVA for this event. We hope to partner with other VSOs to expand this in the upcoming months and invite other chapter members to join us. We’ll even buy you a great lunch – with fresh cookies.
