Erin Cavit

Erin Cavit is a retired U.S. Air Force officer with more than 20 years of experience in military operations, health care administration and veterans’ services.

Board President

Chair of Women’s Retreat and Advocacy and Legislation Committee

Erin’s career reflects a long-standing commitment to service, leadership and advocacy for veterans and their families.

Erin served in the Air Force for more than 16 years, beginning her career as a security police officer before transitioning to the Medical Service Corps. As a hospital administrator, she coordinated the aeromedical evacuation of more than 18,000 injured or ill service members during Operation Just Cause, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. She later served as director of the Medical Plans and Programs Section at the former Military Airlift Command, where she led strategic planning for aeromedical airlift operations across U.S. Air Force war plans, coordinated medical unit readiness for deployed and home-base operations, and worked with FEMA on the domestic use of aeromedical evacuation resources.

After retiring from the Air Force due to multiple sclerosis, Erin returned to school at the University of New Mexico, earning a second bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a certification in reading education. Previously, she earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from San Diego State University and a master’s degree in public administration, with a certification in health care administration, also from the University of New Mexico.

Erin went on to serve her community as a county veterans service officer in Hinsdale County, Colorado, for nine years, retiring from that role in June 2024. In this position, she helped veterans, spouses and family members access earned benefits and navigate complex systems of care and support.

During the summers, Erin leads a community reading program for youth, which local educators have credited with improving student engagement and testing scores.

A member of Paralyzed Veterans of America for more than 20 years, Erin currently leads the Mountain States Chapter’s women veterans’ program.

Erin lives in Lake City, Colorado, with her husband, Dennis, a retired Air Force colonel. They have two sons, including one Air Force retiree, as well as five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
