Multiple Sclerosis

How We Serve

Many Veterans with Multiple Sclerosis do not consider themselves paralyzed, and many are surprised to learn that PVA’s first President in 1946, Gilford Moss, had MS.  Veterans with MS often have symptoms that are often consistent with the definition of paralyzed, and almost a quarter of our members within the Mountain States Chapter and within the National organization have MS.  Today we are the only Veteran Service Organization with service officers who specialize both in spinal cord injuries but also disorders like MS and ALS.

Our chapter has an MS Coordinator and our chapter took the lead in creating a standing MS Committee at the National level with the following goals:

Outreach and Recruitment of New Members

the VA estimates that over 75,000 Veterans have MS with only a fraction getting care through the VA system.

Education

The dissemination of MS specific resources to our members including on new treatments and research efforts.

Provide MS Appropriate Activities

This is what PVA does best, ensure that no member is isolated and alone.
